‘Spider-Man Homecoming’ adds Donald Glover from ‘The Martian’
Community alum Donald Glover has joined Spider-Man: Homecoming, sources confirmed to Variety after early rumors were reported by Deadline.
Tom Holland plays the superhero with Robert Downey Jr. set to reprise his role as Tony Stark, possibly aka Iron Man in the new film.
Holland and Downey Jr. had great chemistry and lines in Marvel’s Civil War, which premiered Holland’s version of Spidey.
Jon Watts is directing Sony’s reboot of the Spider-Man franchise with much greater influence and advice from Marvel Studios. Marisa Tomei will portray Aunt May and Zendaya Coleman is also on board in a mystery role.
Plot details are still being heavily guarded as is a description of Glover’s character.
Kevin Feige is producing with Amy Pascal. Production is expected to star this summer with the film hitting theaters on July 7, 2017.
Glover most recently appeared in the Oscar-nominated film “The Martian” opposite Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain. He can be seen next in his FX comedy “Atlanta,” which premieres later this summer. His other past credits include “Lazarus” and “Magic Mike XXL.”
