Spain reports an imported case of MERS coronavirus
Spain’s Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality announced today a laboratory-confirmed case of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) in a woman who traveled to and stayed in Saudi Arabia during October, according to a ministry press release Nov. 6 (computer translated).

According to health officials, the Moroccan woman living in Spain had traveled to Saudi Arabia and is admitted to the Hospital Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda in Madrid, where they have taken all over the case.
She was admitted on Nov. 1, where she is reported to be in stable condition.
Although it has not been confirmed, it is speculated that the woman may have attended the annual Muslim pilgrimage known as the Hajj, which took place in October in Saudi Arabia.
To date there have been reported 150 confirmed cases, this case will be 151, resulting in 64 fatalities. Saudi Arabia accounts for the majority of cases and fatalities.
All cases have been reported in five countries in the Middle East (Saudi, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Oman). In Europe there have been cases, all imported from this area, in four countries: United Kingdom (two cases), Germany (two cases), France (one case) and Italy (one case).
