Sorcerer stoned to death by angry mob totally 600 in Cambodia
A man accused of using sorcery, which resulted in the deaths of seven elderly people, was stoned and beaten to death in Takeo province in Cambodia. A mob, which started with 200 villager and grew to 600, killed 36-year-old purveyor of black magic, The Cambodia Daily reports today.
The angry mob threw many stones and clubbed traditional healer, Pov Sovann, over the course of six hours. “My police could not do anything because there were many people who carried stones and clubs and were very violent,” local police chief Khut Lo was quoted as saying.
An ambulance coming to the aid of the victim was turned back by the mob. “The perpetrators warned them…. If they come, they will destroy the ambulance car,” said one witness.
In Cambodia’s rural provinces, killings of people suspected of practicing witchcraft, usually men working as traditional healers, are not infrequent. Two have been killed this year.
