‘Sleepy Hollow’ season 4 ratings dip again, season 5 renewal is unlikely

Fox revamped Sleepy Hollow for season 4, but has yielded horrible results, putting the show’s future at risk as ratings dropped to disturbing lows.

Tom Mison’s Ichabod Crane has landed in Washington D.C. with Lyndie Greenwood as the only regular character to remain from the first three seasons. A new cast of young characters has not brought in viewers, but resulted in troubling data as “recently as Feb. 3, the show hit series lows of 1.8 mil/0.5.” according to TV Line.

Season 4 has little to do with Sleepy Hollow (only one episode has been really linked to the small town) and only one episode has featured old Headless – two factors which may also be factoring into the show’s demise.

Ichabod has been focused on a new Witness and supernatural activities centered at the nation’s capitol.

TV Line makes this case for the show staying “Sleepy Hollow has built a rich world full of eerie villains and United States “twistory” (as the show’s EPs like to call it), and four seasons in, the dark nooks and dusty archives of that that world are still fun places to hang out. Though only two of the original series regulars — Tom Mison and Lyndie Greenwood — remain with the show, new characters/Agency 355 employees Jake and Alex inject a little youth and a lot of geekery into the mix — all the more fun for Old Man Crane to play off of — and their eager personalities are nice counterpoints for Ichabod and Jenny’s more sober takes on the life-or-apocalypse mission. Meanwhile, Homeland Security Agent Diana is a capable, believable, funny counterpoint for an increasingly in-charge Crane.”

Arguably, the absence of Headline and John Noble as his demonic son has resulted in Ichabod struggling less with his past and these villains.

Here’s the cast for the show to end from TV Line: Please note I called Diana Ichabod’s “counterpoint” rather than “partner” — and that’s an important distinction. It has nothing to do with Janina Gavankar, who is turning in an imminently watchable performance as Agent Thomas, and she and Mison certainly have chemistry. But Diana isn’t a Witness; her kid is. And precocious though she may be, Molly is (at least not yet) able to challenge Crane’s assumptions, rein in his stubbornness or provide a mature emotional balance for the Man Out of Time — all things Abbie did as second nature in Seasons 1 through 3. Because of the show’s decision to fill the Witness role with a child, Sleepy can feel at times more like a supernatural procedural than the you-and-me-against-the-world journey that made earlier seasons (the freshman one, in particular) so captivating.

Very accurate and our prediction: Sleepy Hollow will NOT get renewed.

No matter how contrived, Abbie (Nicole Beharie) should have been brought back and a supernatural ripple should have rocked the young Witness and Ichabod could have been thrust into more supernatural chaos. The supporting characters are bland because they don’t offer much to the adventures. Heads needed to role and Headless needed to play a big time role in Sleepy Hollow, it’ll be sad to see it go.

Sleepy Hollow should be renewed. The only flaw with season 4 is that the new witness isn’t even allowed to be the witness. Her mama bear of an annoying mother acts like she’s the witness. The witness should have been Jenny, since she shared ancestry with Abbey. Hopefully season 5 will reveal Molly’s shared ancestry with the Mills Sisters.
Jenny is awesome! But Alex on team Ichabod overlaps with the Jenny character a bit too much. Kill Alex, casualties of war and keep Jenny. Too bad she isn’t the new witness but this is what the network decided. Chemistry between Abbey Mills and Ichabod was indeed a good one, but the actress portraying Abbie Mills wanted off the show- so viewers have to accept that.
Bring the show back in October on a Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday like it was during its series debut. The setting should always be Sleepy Hollow! Bring back an amazing villain. Malcolm Dreyfuss was a mediocre villain but at least a wee bit better than Pandora! Maybe season 5 can be a prequel as to how Ichabod was chosen to be the witness and how Katrina hid her pregnancy. Explain more why the Abbey Mills lineage was also chosen to be a witness. Food for thought. But this show has a lot of potential but don’t know what the writers are medicating on.

This article is accurate. Sleepy Hollow started off so well. It was interesting, intriguing, and exciting. However, the core of the show was the relationship between the Witnesses. The chemistry between actors, Mison and Behrie was exceptional, integral, and necessary for this show to work. Unfortunately, the reboot is lame and forced as there is no chemistry with any of the new characters.

Couldn’t agree more with writer. When this program first aired, I really liked it ! However, it’s gotten progressively worse since Abbie’s demise. That really put this show on a downhill slope, even though Tom Mison is SO lovely to gaze upon. Truly hope he gets another series !
