Slain Texas attorney Mark Hasse was threatened, began carrying a gun – manhunt continues
CBS News reports Friday that Mark Hasse, the Texas prosecutor gunned down outside the Kaufman County courthouse Thursday, was concerned about his safety in recent weeks.
Hasse had told a longtime friend about threats made against him and that he, Hasse, was now carrying a gun and altering his daily routine each work day.

Source of the threats remains unknown, reports CBS.
Hasse, 57, was ambushed and executed by two men as he exited his vehicle and walked toward his office in the Kaufman County District Attorney’s Office between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Thursday. Law enforcement authorities also believe he was beaten before he was shot to death by the masked men.
Nearly $65,000 is now being offered for information in the murder, CBS DFW reports.
Hasse made Chief Felony prosecutor in 2009 and is being praised by all of his co-workers: “knew how to try a case, knew the value of a case, knew when to try cases and when not to try cases.”
Besides his passion for the law, Hasse also had a “lifelong love affair” with aviation,” former colleague Marcus Busch said.
