Six people hurt as Georgia FedEx warehouse attacked, shooter dead
Six people were injured during a workplace shooting at a FedEx warehouse in Georgia Tuesday morning before the gunman ended the attack by committing suicide, police said today. One of the injured is in critical condition, police said.
The shooting occurred this morning at a warehouse in Kennesaw, Ga. near the Cobb County Airport.
We are confirming that the suspect in this case is deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Cobb County police said in a statement.
The six injured were taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital. Some of the injured are in surgery, hospital spokesman Tyler Pearson told ABC News with one was listed in critical condition.
“Some were able to walk off the ambulance and others are in the operating room,” said hospital spokesman Tyler Pearson.
Federal authorities are now also on scene, according to a source speaking with The Global Dispatch. The federal officers included agents from Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms as well as FBI bomb technicians, officials said.
FedEx issued a statement saying, “FedEx is aware of the situation. Our primary concern is the safety and wellbeing of our team members, first responders and others affected. FedEx is cooperating with authorities.”
Company spokesman Scott Fiedler later said, “We can confirm that an incident occurred early Tuesday morning at a FedEx Ground facility in Kennesaw, Georgia. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected, and with their families and friends… The situation is now stabilized and we are focused on the needs of our team members and cooperating with the law enforcement investigation of this tragedy.”
