Six Major Benefits of a Ketogenic Diet
There is a lot of hype about the ketogenic diet. Some researchers believe that the low carb diet is one of the best and people should adapt it while others believe that it is just like other fad diets. The truth is that there is no single diet that is suitable for every condition or individual. Countless researches have been done on this diet for years. Furthermore, it is backed by several benefits to the human body and health. Here are some of the advantages of the keto diet.
Eliminates acne
Acne may be caused by blood sugar and diet. Most people tend to see improvements in their skin when they change to a keto diet. Intake of refined and processed foods rich in carbohydrates can transform gut bacteria and cause significant blood sugar fluctuations that can affect skin health. With a decrease in carb intake, people will experience reduced cases of acne.
Weight loss
The keto diet essentially utilizes body fat as its primary energy source, and this can lead to weight loss because the excessive fats will melt away over time. On a low carb diet, the levels of insulin, the fat storing hormone, will reduce drastically. This will transform your body into a fat burning machine. Furthermore, fat-rich foods are satiating and they will drastically reduce your appetite.
Boosts brain function
Most people love low carb diets because they support a healthy brain and boost brain function. Studies have shown that ketogenic diets provide neuroprotective benefits. These neuroprotective benefits can help in preventing and treating medical conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and some sleep disorders. It can help in improving cognitive function and alertness, and this makes it extremely popular in most high-performance career fields.
Controls blood sugar
A keto diet for beginners can be great for individuals who want to maintain a normal blood sugar balance. This is because the ketogenic diet is low in carbohydrates and this will naturally reduce your blood sugar levels. Since keto diets limit the intake of processed grains and sugar, it is an effective method of preventing and managing diabetes.
Stable energy levels
The most shocking thing about the ketogenic diet is how it enables one to maintain stable energy levels throughout the day. Therefore, you will no longer require instant energy boosts or afternoon slumps. This is because ketones are a readily available fuel source unlike glucose. When you are adapted to ketosis, you can go for several hours without some foods without having drastic energy swings.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
PCOS is an endocrine disorder that causes enlarged ovaries that have cysts. A diet that is rich in carbohydrates can negatively affect women who suffer from PCOS. PCOS can cause insulin resistance that can wreck hormonal havoc and cause infertility. A keto diet is extremely low in carbohydrates can help prevent insulin resistance and reduce the problems associated with PCOS.
If you plan on starting the ketogenic diet, you should be cautious and check with your physician if you have heart disease, hypoglycemia, and diabetes. This is because any drastic diet changes can have major consequences on your health. A doctor will guide you and will discuss other dietary change options that can help you achieve what you want.

I am not a big fan of diets, but there is one diet that I do believe gets to the root of people being overweight, and that is the keto diet. It works because it address the problem that causes us to be over weight and that is our addiction to sugar and eating way to much starch.
