Simon Kinberg talks ‘Wolverine 3’ taking place in ‘future’ fueling Old Man Logan rumors
Hugh Jackman will play the popular clawed mutant Wolverine one more time in The Wolverine sequel and producer Simon Kinberg gave fans some insight which points to the Old Man Logan story.
Kinberg tells CinemaBlend that “the movie takes place in the future” so cue the speculation that the sequel to The Wolverine will adapt Mark Millar and Steve McNiven’s acclaimed comic book storyline.
Since Fox doesn’t enough characters to truly adapt the Old Man Logan story, expect a hybrid focusing on Jackman’s Wolvie with Patrick Stewart returning to play Professor Xavier.
Wolverine 3 is set for release on March 3rd, 2017, with James Mangold (The Wolverine) directing and Boyd Holbrook (Narcos) set to play the main villain, “a relentless, calculating and intense head of security for a global enterprise who is set against Jackman’s clawed Wolverine/Logan hero.”
After the great success of Deadpool, Fox sounds like it’s leaning towards a rated-R film.
“So, over the next few months, if you pay attention to the trades, you’ll see Hollywood misunderstanding the lesson they should be learning with Deadpool,” Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn posted.
“They’ll be green lighting films ‘like Deadpool’ — but, by that, they won’t mean ‘good and original’ but ‘a raunchy superhero film’ or ‘it breaks the fourth wall.’ They’ll treat you like you’re stupid, which is the one thing Deadpool didn’t do.”
