Shocking new details in Tanya Byrd murder case as police reveal Bashid McLean photo posing with her head

Bashid McLean confessed to dismembering his mother and scattering her body parts around the Bronx.

An accomplice, William Harris, who has 12 prior arrests, was caught on video helping McLean dispose of garbage bags that contained the body parts of 52-year-old Tanya Bird, sources say.

“My nephew is a monster,” Cassandra McLean said of Bashid McLean, who confessed Tuesday to scattering the hacked-up remains of Byrd across the South Bronx. “This murder was premeditated.”

Now, as Detectives on Wednesday charged McLean with second-degree murder in the Sunday night slaying, more horrible details are coming to light.

In a chilling interview with the Daily News, Cassandra McLean recalled how Byrd, 52, found her troubled 23-year-old son scouring the Internet for ways to cover up a murder. He later created a MySpace page titled “Kill the bitch Tanya.”

“Three weeks ago, he went on Twitter and posted, ‘Tanya must die,’ ” she said.

A shower curtain was found in a garbage bag full of Byrd’s body parts. Police also found photos of Byrd’s mutilated body on McLean’s cell phone, sources said.

On Wednesday, the city medical examiner’s office determined Byrd died of a stab wound to the neck, then was hacked to pieces. McLean’s grisly pics and his initial confession led to his murder charge, sources said.

He and a suspected accomplice were also booked on charges of hindering prosecution and the unlawful dissection of a human body.

Sources said Byrd wanted her son, who was convicted of attacking two police officers in 2010, out of her home after suspecting that he had physically abused his 7-year-old brother, Nasyr.

Cassandra McLean said her nephew deserves the death penalty: “He took away one of God’s angels, and for that he deserves to go to hell.”
