‘Sherlock’ star Benedict Cumberbatch cast in thriller ‘Blood Mountain’

Star Trek Into Darkness star Benedict Cumberbatch has joined the cast of the thriller Blood Mountain.

Variety reports that Cumberbatch will play one of the two main characters. Blood Mountain centers around a private military contractor whose special forces team gets ambushed and killed during a secret mission.

The attack forces him to personally transport one of the world’s most wanted terrorists over enemy territory to bring him to justice. The two men soon find themselves facing their enemies and each other while trying to survive against rival mercenaries and bounty hunters.

It has not been confirmed what role Cumberbatch will play in the film.

The film will be directed by Sergei Bodrov, who helmed Seventh Son.

Lawrence Bender (Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Basterds, Kill Bill), Nicola Horlick and James Gibb are producing. Jonathan W. Stokes penned the original script, with revisions by John Romano.

While Blood Mountain is scheduled to begin shooting in Morocco in April, the 37-year-old actor is also set to star in the adaptation of The Lost City of Z.
