Shahin Taraghi charged with vehicular homicide, DUI after Christopher Larkin dies in motorcycle crash
Colorado Police report that the motorcyclist, Christopher Larkin, who was hit by a drunk driver Sunday night, died after being killed by the speeding pickup driven by Shahin S. Taraghi, who will now be charged with vehicular homicide and DUI.
Taraghi, 34, rear-ended Larkin’s motorcycle and dragged the bike more than 600 feet down North Academy Boulevard, police said.
Larkin was thrown from his bike and hit by the driver of a minivan.
The crash was reported at 8:42 p.m. near Parkmoor Village Drive.
Police said Larkin was southbound on North Academy Boulevard when he was struck by the truck. The pickup continued driving after the crash, dragging the motorcycle and throwing Larkin into the road, where he was hit by a white minivan as he lay in the street.
Officials have confirmed that the investigation is considered ongoing.
KRDO reports that “This is the 33rd traffic-related fatality in Colorado Springs in 2019, and is on pace with the record, which was set last year. At this time in 2018 there were 34 traffic-related fatalities.”
