Sex scandal teacher Debra Lafave loses appeal, probation reinstated

A Florida judge has reinstated probation for Debra Lafave, the former Tampa teacher convicted of having sex with a student.

Lafave, 32, was sentenced Thursday to three years house arrest and seven years’ probation.

A judge ended Lafave’s probation early last year, but another judge in August reversed that decision, putting Lafave back on probation on Dec. 19.

She appealed that decision to the Florida Supreme Court, asking to end it all together, but that request was denied.

In 2005, she pleaded guilty to two counts of lewd and lascivious battery for having sex with a 14-year old boy.

With her probation now officially reinstated, Lafave must complete four years and two months remaining on the sentence.

Lafave, while speaking to reporters outside, said she had been taking care of her mother, who has been diagnosed with cancer for the second time.

“I was so fortunate I was able to take her to chemo treatment and spend the night with her,” she said.

Attorney John Fitzgibbons said the Florida Supreme Court will consider her issues with probation moving forward.

“We’re hopeful we receive a favorable ruling in the next six months to year from the Supreme Court and that should finally conclude things,” he said.

  1. CHRISTOPHER ALLEN HORTON says:

AS A MALE HOMOSEXUAL, I BELIEVE pedophilia (AS A LEGAL TERM) SHOULD BE DEFINED AS ADULT SEXUAL-CONTACT WITH A CHILD WHO HAS NOT ENTERED PUBERTY. IF THE CHILD HAS ENTERED PUBERTY, SEXUAL CONTACT WITH AN ADULT SHOULD BE LEGAL SINCE PUBESCENT CHILDREN HAVE THE BIOLOGICAL CAPABILITY TO REPRODUCE.

THEREFORE, I DO NOT CONSIDER Debra LaFave’s RELATIONSHIP WITH A FOURTEEN-YEAR-OLD TO BE A CRIME. THE SECOND JUDGE WAS FORCING HIS VALUES ON Ms. LaFAVE BY REVERSING THE FIRST JUDGE’S DECISION.

NOW, THAT WE LIVE IN AN AGE OF GROWING HETEROSEXUAL ACCEPTANCE OF HOMOSEXUALITY, HETEROSEXUAL ADULTS MUST “COME TO TERMS” WITH THE FACT HOMOSEXUAL CHILDREN ARE HAVING SEX – AND, SINCE PREGNANCY IS NOT A FACTOR AGE RANGE IS OF NO CONSEQUENCE.
