Seattle man dribbling soccer ball to Brazil, Richard Swanson, hit by truck and killed in Oregon

Emerald City, Seattle, Washington man, Richard Swanson, 42, headed off on a trek from his home in the US Northwest to Brazil two weeks ago with the goal of dribbling a One World Futbol to Brazil in time for the 2014 World Cup, tragically died Tuesday in Lincoln City, Oregon.

The announcement of Swanson’s death was posted on his Breakaway Brazil Facebook page:

It is with a heavy heart to notify you that Richard Swanson passed on this morning. His team, family, friends, and loved ones will miss him and love him dearly. You made it to Brazil in our hearts, Richard. Team Richard

According to an AP report yesterday, Police in Lincoln City, Ore., said 42-year-old Richard Swanson was hit at about 10 a.m. while walking south along U.S. Highway 101 near the city limits. He was declared dead at a hospital. The driver has not been charged.

One World Futbol tweeted yesterday, “We are extremely saddened to hear the news about Richard. He was a very inspiring man, our thoughts are with his family…”

California-based One World Futbol Project, donates durable blue soccer balls to people in developing countries.

“Team Richard” announced yesterday that Richard Swanson  is donating his organs, “He would appreciate that his super x-ray vision and beautiful blue eyes will give new life to someone and give them super powers too.”

Recent posts by followers of Breakaway Brazil praised the man and his goal:

“Such an inspiring story! His work here was done, rest in peace, God’s blessings on his loved ones.”

Swanson, a lover of the game of soccer, planned on spending over a year travelling through North America, Central America, and South America before arriving in Brazil for the 2014 World Cup .

Richard Swanson is survived by his two sons, Devin and Raven.
