SDCC 2016: First ‘Justice League’ shows Batman putting a team together
Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Justice League, Zack Snyder’s sequel to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Check out the trailer below.
Fans at San Diego Comic-Con were treated to the first look as Ben Affleck took center stage, building a new team: Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher).
Miller’s Barry Allen is quite different than the CW’s version with Grant Gustin and there seems to be a bit of comedic play which was minimal in BvS.
“Batman went to a very dark place that was rooted in this trauma occurred to the people that he loved and worked with and what he saw,” Affleck said of Batman in BvS, before commenting on what to expect in this new film.
“This really is not about that issue for him so much anymore. He’s no longer extreme in that way. From the experiences of the last movie, he sort of learns some things I think and now is … I’m trying to say it without giving away any spoilers, but he’s feeling like he’s wanting to redeem himself and he’s wanting mankind to be redeemed and he’s wanting to make the world better, having learned lessons that were important in the last movie.”
Notably absent is Henry Cavill as Superman and the villain, still unknown at this point, but presumed to be Darkseid.
Justice League also stars J.K. Simmons, Willem Dafoe, Amber Heard opens in theaters on November 17, 2017.
Here’s the official synopsis for Justice League:
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
