SDCC 2015: Bill Murray makes first appearance, promotes ‘Rock the Kabash’ meet Jennifer Lawrence
Bill Murray appeared at Comic-Con for the first time to his new film, Rock The Kasbah.
“Once upon a time, I did save the city of New York, and I had the coolest damn car to drive around Manhattan,” Murray teased when asked about his favorite role, alluding to Ghostbusters to the crowd during Open Road Film’s presentation in Hall H at the San Diego Convention Center.
In Rock The Kasbah, Murray stars as a music manager who takes a teenage singer he discovers in Afhanistan to Kabul to compete on an American Idol-like competition TV show called Afghan Star.
Moderator Josh Horowitz asked if there was any truth to the rumors about Murray being up for the role of Han Solo back in the day and if he’d heard about the recently announced Han Solo anthology film. “I don’t know if I was up for the role of Han Solo, I don’t remember,” Murray replied. However, “I am working out now in hopes of getting this new thing,” he joked. “Swivels and pilates, and I’m really going to work hard at it.”
Rock The Kasbah is directed by Barry Levinson, the cast also includes Bruce Willis, Kate Hudson,Zooey Deschanel, Taylor Kinney and Scott Caan.
Rock The Kasbah is in theaters Oct. 23.
Immediately following Murray’s appearance, Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson took to the stage for the Comic-Con Mockingjay panel moderated by Conan O’Brien.
Lawrence posted for a wonderful photo with Murray: see the pic of their meeting:
