Scottish tattoo artist, Jamie Drew, fined for using minors as ‘guinea pigs’ to practice his art
In an effort to become a good tattoo artist, one Scottish man practiced on underage girls at his home to master his craft according to the Paisley Sheriff Court.
With no record of training or qualifications, Foxbar, Paisley man, Jamie Drew performed “practice” tattoos on four young girls ages 12 to 15 out of his flat.
According to Daily Record report Wednesday, Drew tattooed a treble clef on the 12-year-old’s hip and “Love is forever” on a 13-year-old girl’s lower stomach.
Another 13-year-old had “Daddy’s little girl” tattooed on her stomach and her friend, aged 15, had “Mum” put on her shoulder.
Now the concern is for the girl’s health. There is no way to know if the tattoo needles were properly sterilized and a concern over blood borne pathogens like hepatitis is utmost on people’s minds.
The girls have started hepatitis B prophylaxis according to the report and the waiting game begins for the children.
Drew admitted breaching the Tattooing of Minors Act and was fined £350 ($543). He said he has no intention of tattooing again.
