Sarah Catt jailed for aborting baby from an affair 2 days before due date
A British woman has found herself behind bars for reportedly ordering drugs off of the Internet to assist with aborting her child within days of delivering the baby.
Sarah Catt, from Sherburn-in-Elmet, induced the abortion and her son was stillborn, She then buried the body but his remains have never been found.
Catt, age 35, has two children with her husband when she became pregnant in 2009, but believed the baby’s father was a man with whom she had been having an affair for seven years. Catt then bought the drugs on the internet which induced her labor when her pregnancy was nearly full-term.
She tried to terminate the pregnancy in 2010 but discovered she had missed the legal limit of 24 weeks.
She made several searches on the internet relating to illegal abortions and abortion drugs, including “Where can I get an illegal abortion?” and “Inducing an abortion at 30 weeks”.
Suspicions were raised when she failed to register the birth weeks later.
Catt had been having an affair with a work colleague for seven years, the judge was told and her husband was unaware of the pregnancy and was not consulted about her decision to have an abortion.
The defendant pleaded guilty in July to administering a poison with intent to procure a miscarriage.
She told a psychiatrist she had taken the drug while her husband was away and delivered the baby boy by herself at home.
Catt said the child was not breathing or moving and that she had buried his body, but did not reveal the location.
