Sandy Hook killed the real gun violence issue as homicide crime is low and the UK gun ban didn’t work
Gun violence is shocking in big urban cities. A Sandy Hook tragedy causes politicians to look empathetic and race to gun legislature or outright bans. Of course the handguns used by drug dealers in the multitude of homicides doesn’t seem like topic of discussion.
National rates of gun homicide and other violent gun crimes are strikingly lower now than during their peak in the mid-1990s, paralleling a general decline in violent crime, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of government data. Beneath the long-term trend, though, are big differences by decade: Violence plunged through the 1990s, but has declined less dramatically since 2000.
Compared with 1993, the peak of U.S. gun homicides, the firearm homicide rate was 49% lower in 2010, and there were fewer deaths, even though the nation’s population grew. The victimization rate for other violent crimes with a firearm—assaults, robberies and sex crimes—was 75% lower in 2011 than in 1993. Violent non-fatal crime victimization overall (with or without a firearm) also is down markedly (72%) over two decades.
Meanwhile in the UK, the model for a gun ban, shows the opposite trend:
The latest Government figures show that the total number of firearm offences in England and Wales has increased from 5,209 in 1998/99 to 9,865 in 2009 – a rise of 89 per cent. (Source)

Uniform Crime Reporting statistics and the Census, indicate 2.4% of Americans commit 40% of all murders. Said 2.4% is the population of African-American males ages 13-40. Young Black men kill other young Black men with handguns and they do so in the context of the drug trade.
The police struggle at closing murder cases and young Black male murderers repeat offend.
Like it or not those are the facts. The rest of America doesn’t much care about young Black thugs killing other young Black thugs – as long as the violence stays out of safe, white America like Sandy Hook.
Connected to the above statement, the UK stats were part of the Daily Mail article which also discussed their rise in violence: “The statistic will fuel fears that the police are struggling to contain gang-related violence, in which the carrying of a firearm has become increasingly common place”
Gun bans don’t work, especially if you aren’t even talking about the weapons most criminals use.
