‘Samurai Cop’ ‘made funny’ by Rifftrax with MST3K jokers

It may be shocking to those familiar with the film, but Samurai Cop actually was quite entertaining at last week’s encore screening. Sadly for the original creators, it took MST3K alums Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett bashing the film to make it tolerable as Samurai Cop was the target of another Rifftrax event.

In the wake of the Lethal Weapon franchise comes Samurai Cop, centering on Joe Marshall and Frank Washington with ban puns, special effects and a main character who is never really a Samurai. Add in MST3K fan-favorite Robert Z’Dar for some insanely awful and hilarious fight scenes and you get an awful film. In fact, the terrible black wig comes a character worthy of a screen credit since it’s a bigger presence on screen than most of the cast.

The horrible editing, acting and special effects tee up joke after joke for the trio as they Riff a film plagued with racists jokes, cliches and a microscopic budget. It’s truly hard to believe this film ever got completed. There is no better example of a film living up to the Rifftrax slogan “Made Funny By” – check it out.

Samurai Cop kicked off the 2017 Fathom Event schedule of events for Rifftrax so stay tuned as most shows are coming over the summer.

Need a laugh, track down a Rifftrax version through their website or at some later point on Netflix/Amazon Prime.
