‘Samson’ Producer Brittany Yost discusses the script, adapting the scripture, shooting in South Africa and Taylor James

Pure Flix’s Samson film arrives next month and the film’s producer, Brittany Yost, spoke on The Brandon Jones Show, detailing the project and offering up great insights into the new film version of a famous Bible character and events.

“The Samson script came to us in a more unique way than most of our films,” Brittany says, explaining how the “finished script” was presented and the studio thoughts this is the time to “shed the light on the actual superhero from the Bible and bring it to the big screen.”

Brittany revealed her thoughts about fan expectations, theological interpretations and how they “creative liberties” due to the Bible not having “a lot of information about him…” and same for Delilah. “We tried to make him a very modern and relatable guy…and show this very natural strength which comes out of him…”

The God’s Not Dead 2, Do You Believe producer talks about bringing the Old Testament to life, filming in South Africa which became such “an fascinating, incredible process.”

Samson is based on the powerful, biblical epic of a champion chosen by God to deliver Israel. His supernatural strength is in contradiction for his weakness for women and his love for a beautiful temptress named Delilah becomes his undoing. Samson is captured and blinded by his enemies. Samson calls upon his God once more for supernatural strength and turns imprisonment and blindness into final victory.

Taylor James stars as the titular character alongside an amazing cast: Billy Zane (Titanic, The Phantom), Golden Globe® winner Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner, The Hitcher), Jackson Rathbone (Twilight Saga, The Last Air Bender), Lindsay Wagner (The Bionic Woman) and Caitlin Leahy (Legion, God’s Not Dead: Light in the Darkness).

“They were drawn to the script as much as we all were,” Yost said of the great cast which joined the film, then adding that it adds some appeal to the general market, not just the faith-based crowd.

Yost praised James, a British actor who has some experience working with Kenneth Branagh’s Branagh Theater Live.

“I’ve never seen an actor so dedicated…so committed to not only the character, but also the rigorous days of having to wear just a loincloth and fight hundreds of guys…” and “learn the choreography very quickly.”

Samson arrives in theaters on February 16, 2018.
