Sam Raimi talks ‘Evil Dead’ and ‘Poltergeist’ remakes
While promoting his latest film, “Possession,” director Sam Raimi gave fans an update on two huge remakes in the works: “Evil Dead” and “Poltergeist.” Raimi, attached as a producer on both films, is also in post-production on 2013’s “Oz: The Great and Powerful.”
In an exclusive interview with Collider, published on Wednesday, the “Spider-Man” director addressed the blood and gore than made “Evil Dead” so popular among fans and how the film will be rated.
“It’s really bloody. It’s so bloody, it will make your head spin. I’ve seen almost all the dailies and they’re really going for it. It’s gonna be grisly and intense and non-stop.”
Fans would be quick to asked if it will be rated-R.
“Definitely R. Maybe worse.”
The remake will feature a cast of young actors such as Jessica Lucas (“Cloverfield,” “The Covenant”), Jane Levy (“Shameless”) and Shiloh Fernandez (“Red Riding Hood,” “Red”) with director Fede Alvarez (“Panic Attack”).
Additionally, Raimi will oversee the remake of “Poltergeist,” the classic 80’s film which starred Craig T. Nelson, but offered no real news.
“Probably nothing new that you don’t know. David Lindsay-Abaire is working on the screenplay, and I’m hoping to have a draft by around the first of October.”
“The Possession” opens August 31 with Sam Raimi as producer. His next film as director arrives next March, “Oz: The Great and Powerful” starring James Franco in the title role. “Oz” opens March 8, 2013.
