Safari vacations and wildlife tours in Africa

Africa is a vast continent with many options for a great safari experience. Whether staying in a luxury lodge or basic tented accommodation, you will experience comfort, delicious food and a wildlife experience like no other.

Whether experiencing the Great Wildebeest Migration in Northern Tanzania and Kenya, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, going on a luxury flying safari or visiting the Big Five in South Africa, a safari is a one of a kind experience not to be missed on an African vacation. The following are suggestions for safari holidays and wildlife tours across Africa.

  1. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi National Park, Uganda

Heading out from Kampala, discover Uganda by traveling to Kibale to visit its famous chimpanzees, gaze at the beautiful Sipi Falls and visit the wild and wonderful Kidepo National Park. Enjoy a safari experience in the Queen Elizabeth National Park before arriving at Bwindi National Park where you will experience the gorilla trekking for which this park is famous.

  1. Great Wildebeest Migration and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro

One of the most iconic and moving safari experiences is to witness the Great Wildebeest Migration in late November and December of each year. Watch as thousands of beasts make their way across the Serengeti, risking their lives among predators along the way and from crocodiles while crossing the Grumeti River as they head to Kenya. The migration is truly mind-blowing and a photo moment not to be missed.

Mount Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano located in Tanzania, close to the Kenya border. Kilimanjaro is 5,895 meters (19,340 feet) in height, which makes it the highest mountain in Africa. It is also the highest free-standing mountain in the world, spectacularly set in the middle of an African plain. Climbing the mountain takes some preparation, but the rewards are well worth the effort and energy put into the climb! This signpost awaits you at the summit.

This luxury safari is a unique way to experience Namibia in style. Fly from camp to luxurious camp, including visiting a private reserve in the Namib Desert, where you will experience the most sought after area within the desert dunes.

Head off to Walvis Bay and Pelican Point where a tidal lagoon is home to colourful pelicans, flamingos and Damara terns. Visit the Pelican Point Lighthouse to see the whales, dolphins and Cape fur seals that live in the area. On the Atlantic coast, head to the city of Swakopmund, before visiting the stunning Skeleton Coast Park.

  1. Kruger National Park, South Africa

Kruger National Park is renowned as being the best safari experience in South Africa. Lodging comes in the form of everything from luxury lodges and camps to the most basic tent camps for a more rugged safari experience. Choices of touring include riding in a safari jeep, or taking a horseback or walking safari through true Africa.

Along with the iconic Big Five – buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion and rhino – you will experience other, fascinating wildlife in Kruger National Park. Watch the meerkats standing to attention as you pass, or spot a hyena cleaning up after a predator kill. The Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre is an interesting and vital visit, where you can find out about conservation efforts with rare and endangered species, with special emphasis on the majestic cheetah.

Next year head off on an African safari for an experience of a lifetime!
