Russell Simmons on Larry King Now: where are black agents, marriage advice, NFL and the N-word
Russell Simmons wants to do for meditation what he did for hip hop: make it mainstream.
The business magnate and industry icon discusses the power of a quiet mind, of Justin Bieber, and of persistence in this wise and wide-ranging interview on Larry King Live.
Among many topics, Russell Simmons discusses segregation in Hollywood: “It’s still a sad reality of Hollywood. Can you name a black agent?”
His personal philosophy on wealth: “I’m not as rich as they say. I could put my whole house in my ex-wife’s Jacuzzi. I don’t really need anything.”
The NFL’s proposed ban on the n-word: “My father was a professor of black history, but if they ever told him he couldn’t use that word, he’d have turned over and said ‘ni**a, please.’” said Simmons. “Language is less important to me than intention.”
He gives marital advice to fans – he discusses his relationship with ex-wife and mother of his children, Kimora Lee: “She’s an excellent mother. Everybody should make friends with their ex-wife. It’s selfish not to…grow some tolerance, some balls, whatever it takes.”
