Rumor: Kyle MacLachlan cast as Doctor Strange after ‘Agents of SHIELD’ role revealed

Marvel’s Doctor Strange movie is reportedly going on production this fall in preparation for the 2016 release date with a director and writer on board, Scott Derrickson and Jon Spaihts respectively. Casting news for Agents of SHIELD may finally be linked to the star set to play Strange: Kyle MacLachlan.

Doctor Strange Marvel Comics photoThe Twin Peaks star will appear on the second episode of the upcoming Marvel television hit Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as a character called The Doctor according to according to a report on i09. “While there has been no confirmation as to whether The Doctor character is actually Doctor Strange, the move was certainly played by Marvel to raise eyebrows,” they write.

As they note, nothing is official, but they proceed to back up the news on Inquisitir: “But is the Kyle MacLachlan character just a red herring or did the Twin Peaks actor actually beat out the likes of Joaquin Phoenix and Johnny Depp for the coveted role? MacLachlan fits both the age and looks category when it comes to the most popular representations of the Doctor Strange character, and his cultish connections with such projects as the aforementioned Twin Peaks and films like Blue Velvet and Dune certainly give Kyle a mysterious pedigree that you’d hope the casting choice would acknowledge.”

Marvel Exec Kevin Feige has been honest and open abou the key role Stephen Stange plays in the Marvel Universe.

“Doctor Strange is, I believe, our entry point into that other realm, which has dozens of characters and storylines all of its own.”

Feige continued saying that the Sorcerer Supreme’s film is “very, very important” to Marvel’s future.

“[This is] a journey of a man who’s gone from this very arrogant surgeon to somebody who is quite zen and literally keeps all of reality together on a daily basis, but it also is going to open up a whole other side of storytelling for our movies,” he expounded.
