Roy Smith, 84-year-old Georgia man arrested after pointing gun at anti-Obama protesters

An 84-year-old Obama supporter was arrested by Gwinnett County Police at his home in Georgia Tuesday, after pointing a gun at two female “Overpasses for Obama’s Impeachment” protesters.

Police have arrested Roy Smith who now faces three counts of misdemeanor simple assault and pointing a firearm at another.

Protestors Toni Pendley and Marge Moore are part of the Overpasses for Obama’s Impeachment movement, a national movement that places signs along interstate overpasses with anti-Obama messages.

The women said they were protesting on the Steve Reynolds Overpass above Interstate 85 when a maroon car drove by and a man pointed a gun at them.

“He was looking straight at me,” Pendley told Channel 2 Action News .

Witnesses spotted the gun, called 911 and reported the tag number to Detectives who used the information to track down the senior citizen as his home.

In a police report, a detective writes Smith wasn’t home at first but his car was parked in the driveway. Using a search warrant, police found the handgun inside the driver’s side door. It matched the description witnesses gave to police.

In the police report, an investigator said Smith stated “he kept the weapon in the vehicle for the carjackers. He stated that he had the gun with him on the day of the incident, but stated that he did not present it to the protestors.” He “stated that everyone was lying on him in an attempt to get him into trouble.”

“Not your typical suspect,” conceded Gwinnett Police Cpl. Ed Ritter.

Likely since the mugshot of Smith includes plastic tubing leading up to his nose, likely from an oxygen tank.

  1. Toni Pendley says:

You are not reporting the truth! The car was stopped while Mr. smith pointed a gun at me. Then he proceeded to splash a foreign liquid on Marj More. Cpl. Ed Ritter also said “it does not make any difference what age he is, he is going to be held accountable”. And I would like to point out Mr. smith did not have an oxygen tube stuck up his nose when he pointed a gun at me. Not that it makes a difference. Wrong is wrong. The Gwinnett police are charging him with 3 misdemeanors.
