Rosalba Moran, California mother, arrested for giving birth and abandoning baby in field
The mother of a newborn baby which was found dead in a Camarillo strawberry field back in May was been arrested for murder, authorities stated on Thursday.
Detectives say the 20-year-old Rosalba Moran of Oxnard gave birth in the field and left the newborn to die.
A farm worker found the baby’s body.
Months of detective work, including the use of familial DNA, went into the arrest with more than 100 DNA swabs collected from field workers in the area the day the baby was found.
Authorities were led to Moran when her DNA was collected while she was in custody on unrelated charges.
“Significant evidence directly linked Moran to the murder of her newborn baby,” Sgt. Ian Laughlin said in a statement.
She was arrested and is being held on $1 million bail.
Detectives are continuing to investigate leads that may lead to the identification of the baby’s father.
