Ron Paul responds to Miss Alabama Mary Margaret McCord NSA statement at Miss USA contest

During the Miss USA pageant earlier this week, the  first runner-up answered a question concerning the National Security Agency’s (NSA) surveillance, which raised a few eyebrows, to say the least.

Miss Alabama Mary Margaret McCord was asked the following question from actress Wendie Malick: “Government tracking of phone records has been in the news lately. Is this an invasion of privacy, or necessary to keep our country safe, why or why not?”

Miss McCord answered the question in front of a worldwide television audience, “I think the society that we live in today, it’s sad that if go to the movie, or to the airport, or even to the mall that we have to worry about our safety, so I would rather someone track my telephone messages and feel safe wherever I go than feel like they’re, um, encroaching on my privacy.”

In addition to raising some eyebrows, it drew a comment from one former congressman and lifelong defender of civil liberties.

During a interview on Alex Jones Infowars program this week, the host asked former Texas Congressman Ron Paul, “What would you say to Miss Alabama?” (Conversation begins at the 11:16 mark on the video)

Paul said, “They (speaking of the contestants) have to come around to the belief of the majority of American people now that the government doesn’t tell us truth,” Paul said.

“If you become a slave they [the government] might feed us well but we have no liberties left. We would be safe from outsiders but we wouldn’t be safe from our own government or our slave owners.”

“They think [safety] is the only responsibility of government. But they never even talk about safety in the Constitution.”

“The President and the Congress is supposed to protect our liberties and we’re supposed to worry about our safety, security, and how we provide for our families.”

  3. James Gragg says:

Its most obvious that the “protectionist” mindset of some individuals, are completely ignorant if they really believe that the police (government) is there to protect them. Police have NO DUTY TO PROTECT individuals. Warren v. District of Columbia (444 A.2d. 1, D.C. Ct. of Ap. 1981) “D.C.’s highest court exonerated the District and its police, saying that it is a ‘fundamental principle of American law that a government and its agents are under no general duty to provide public services, such as police protection, to any individual citizen.'”

Miss Alabama may get an “A” for beauty, but she also gets an “F” for stupidly, and actually believing any government propaganda.

      “James Gragg,”

YOU ARE CONFUSING ONLINE DISCUSSION WITH REAL LIFE. IF YOU POLLED THE “MAN-ON-THE-STREET” AND ASKED, “What is National Security Agency?,” OR, “Who is Edward Snowden?,” MANY AMERICANS COULD NOT ANSWER. BEAUTIFUL FEMALES, LIKE Miss Alabama, ARE AFRAID TO GO TO THE GROCERY STORE, MALL, ETC. – SO, THEY GREATLY APPRECIATE SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS.

“Mr. Gragg,” THE TYPE OF SURVEILLANCE YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT IS “ABOVE-THE-HEADS” OF MOST AMERICANS.

Ron Paul is NEVER wrong. And what a sexist remark that females feel “safe” when there’s a fascist intrusive government monitoring them.

She gave as ignorant and laughably stupid an answer as Ms. South Carolina explaining about “maps.” If someone knocked that dumb bimbo in the head with a 2 by 4 you’d hear nothing but rocks rattling around.

    • CHRISTOPHER ALLEN HORTON says:

      “Blakmira,”

I ASSUME YOU ARE FEMALE. YOU HAVE DONE A GREAT INJUSTICE TO YOUR GENDER BY STATING FEMALES DO NOT VALUE SURVEILLANCE EQUIPMENT. SO, “Blakmira,” WHY DO MANY FEMALES HAVE MACE ATTACHED TO THEIR KEY-RINGS IF THEY DO NOT FEAR AN ATTACK?

AGAIN, I TYPE, MALES ARE THE ONES WHO ARE PRIMARILY CONCERNED ABOUT National Security Agency. NO OFFENSE, “Blakmira” BUT, IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE PHYSICAL FEATURES LIKE, Miss Alabama, YOU SHOULD NOT SPEAK FOR THOSE FEMALES WHO DO.

  5. CHRISTOPHER ALLEN HORTON says:

ON ANOTHER WEBSITE, I READ AN ARTICLE ABOUT PEOPLE THINKING Miss Utah GAVE AN IGNORANT ANSWER TO HER QUESTION.

SO, IN THIS CASE, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) IS WRONG. Miss Alabama IS A BEAUTIFUL FEMALE WHO RECEIVES THE ATTENTION – MANY TIMES, UNWANTED – FROM SEVERAL MALES. THEREFORE, IT IS QUITE LOGICAL Miss Alabama MAY FEAR A SEXUAL ATTACK. AMERICANS RELY ON THE MEDIA TO TELL US WHAT THE GOVERNMENT IS DOING; HENCE, FOR MANY FEMALES, KNOWING THE GOVERNMENT HAS AN INTRICATE SURVEILLANCE PROGRAM IS CONSIDERED A GOOD THING. MALES, PRIMARILY, ARE THE ONES WHO ARE OFFENDED BY GOVERNMENTAL TYRANNY.

Miss USA IS A BEAUTY PAGEANT. INDIVIDUAL STATES SELECT SYMBOLS OF BEAUTY WHICH REPRESENT THE OVERALL VALUES OF A PARTICULAR STATE. IT IS QUITE UNFAIR TO ASK THESE CONTESTANTS COMPLEX POLITICAL-QUESTIONS, THEN, ALLOW A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME TO ANSWER WHILE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE ARE WATCHING.
