Ron Paul blames America for Syrian crisis, refugees, should let atrocities happen over there

Speaking Wednesday with host Charles Payne on Fox Business, Ron Paul Institute Chairman and Founder Ron Paul said “interventionism of Republicans and Democrats” to “remake the Middle East” is to blame for the “utter mess” from which many Middle Easterners are fleeing. In short, concludes Paul, “the more we’re involved, the more chaos there is.”

“We should have done a lot less, a long time ago,” Paul begins after Payne played the Donald Trump clip in which he says something has to be done. “Dealing with the immigrants in an important subject, but if you don’t learn how this came about and what was at fault and whose policies created this, it won’t do any good. It will continue.”

Paul then repeats the labels from his previous speeches, “the neoconservatives say this is terrible because we didn’t kill enough Iraqis soon enough” and blames the regime efforts by America for the massive exodus of Syrians.

“We created ISIS and al-Qaida…” he says before Payne points to a much longer, historic problem in the Middle East. Payne asks if “America should ditch it’s role as war policeman and whatever atrocities happen over the, just let it happen over there?”

“Yeah. I think the more we’re involved, the more chaos there is. There’s been periods of time in the history of that area where Christians, Jews and Muslims lived peacefully together. It’s when outsiders come in…when there’s a Crusade from the Europeans and the Americans come in and take over…” stating that all the rebels are unified to get out foreigners.

Now into its fifth year, the Syrian conflict has created a widespread and dire humanitarian crisis for more than half of the country’s 23 million citizens. Since the conflict began in March 2011, the number of Syrians in need of humanitarian aid has risen twelvefold—and has increased another 31 percent from last year.

Nearly 4 million people are now living in desperate conditions as refugees in neighboring countries. About 8 million Syrians have been uprooted from their homes and are internally displaced within the country.
