Robin Speronis, Florida woman evicted for ‘living off of grid’ after TV covers her lifestyle

A Florida woman is battling code enforcement who served her papers to evict her after a news station highlighted that she lives without electricity and running water.

FOX 4 reports that the Cape Coral woman, Robin Speronis, highlighted in a story “Off the Grid” is now battling eviction.

Robin Speronis off the grid woman evicted“A code enforcement officer came, knocked on the door then posts a placard that says uninhabitable property, do not enter,” says Robin as she reads the sign.

A Cape Coral code enforcement officer posted a “notice to vacate” one day after the FOX story aired.

“Putting a woman who lives by herself, who is a widow, out on the street without any due process of law is unfathomable,” says Speronis.

The notice cites international property maintenance code and states the property is unsafe to be lived in, but she wonders how code enforcement would know without ever having been inside the home.

The city code compliance manager tells 4 In Your Corner he tagged the home because it doesn’t have running water or electrcity, although neither modern comfort is mentioned as a requirement in the code cited by the city on the notice.

“I’m going to bring this to the attention of anyone who will listen until justice is served,” she said.

A lawyer is taking her case and while it’s not directly connected to the story, according to the Cape Coral Daily Breeze, she was found guilty of larceny and in 2012 had her real estate license revoked.

I think your last sentence in this article is mean-spirited. If it isn’t related to the story, then why print it? What difference does it make to THIS ISSUE AND CASE – unless there’s some bias and discrimination involved? And you didn’t elaborate on any of that, so all you did was to cast a mean-spirited shadow over this woman for something that, as you so readily admit, has NOTHING to do with THIS case, at all. Shame on you.
