Robert Vaughn praises Henry Cavill for ‘Man From UNCLE,’ new trailer
Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer are teaming up to finally bring The Man From U.N.C.L.E. from the small screen to theaters. Robert Vaughn, the actor who originally played the character in the hit TV series, granted an interview with henrycavill.org where he shared his thoughts on Guy Ritchie’s movie adaptation just as the first full trailer dropped.
“In the 40 years since the show went off the air, every year somebody has said they were going to make a new The Man From U.N.C.L.E. movie and no one ever did until this one, so it was quite surprising,” Vaughn said.
He also expressed his support for Man of Steel star Henry Cavill.
“I’m sure he’ll be fine. He’s an attractive actor. I’ve seen him wearing the Superman suit,” he said. “The main thing he has to have to make the character work is a sense of humor. That’s what we always said… no matter how dire the situations were, the humor was the thing that helped us prevail.”
“He looked wonderful. He’s a very good Superman type.”
Set in 1963, during some scary days of the Cold War an international criminal organization with ties to ex-Nazis rises and may have an atomic bomb.
Cavill stars as CIA agent Napoleon Solo and Armie Hammer as KGB operative Illya Kuryakin. The sworn enemies are forced to table their hostilities and work together to infiltrate the bad guys, who are intent on upsetting the fragile geopolitical balance. Check out the trailer below.
Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Debicki, Jared Harris and Hugh Grant co-star in the script by Ritchie and Lionel Wigram from a story they wrote with Jeff Kleeman and David Campbell Wilson.
The Man From U.N.C.L.E. opens in theaters on August 14, 2015.
