Robert Redford says Arctic drilling is ‘end game,’ praises Donald Trump’s ‘shake up,’ rest are ‘bland Looney Tunes’
While promoting his new film, A Walk in the Woods, star Robert Redford spoke with Larry King on Larry King Now to tackle all sorts of topics. No surprise that the liberal Hollywood star supports President Obama and opens up about his talk at the United Nations, issues surrounding the Obama administration and climate change. Redford then takes aim at the GOP, praising Donald Trump’s pressence.
“It was about the fact that we’ve been talking about climate change for twenty years. It’s time to stop talking about it and do something about it, so urgency was a theme in speaking.” Redford said of his recent talks with the UN. Recently the Natural star spoke on the environmental issues, praising the Pope’s remarks on climate change (not addressing the objection to gay marriage which he supports), claiming that “It’s not about politics. The moral issue of climate change should transcend politics….” – more on that speech here.
On Larry King Now, Redford was careful not to fully criticize the Obama administration, just the news on approved Arctic drilling.
“It’s puzzling because he’s [Obama] doing so many great things, things I really do support. Then it comes to the Arctic drilling and I can’t put that one together. I just can’t put that one together. Because once you start that, once you drill in the Arctic, you’re looking at the end game.”
Redford doesn’t appear to be challenge on his own personal carbon footprint or impact on the environment, owning at least three homes, cruises around in an SUV and flies on private jets.
It’s no surprise that Redford then took aim at the GOP, “glad” that Donald Trump is in the list of candidates. “He’s got such a big foot in his mouth I’m not sure you’re gonna get it out.”
“On the other hand… I’m glad he’s in there because him being the way he is and saying what he says the way he says it I think shakes things up and I think that’s very needed because on the other side it’s so bland, it’s so boring, it’s so empty. It’s like Looney Tunes and not Merrie Melodies.”
