RiffTrax ‘Godzilla’ makes Matthew Broderick, Hank Azaria funny with MST3K humor, replay Tuesday
Nicknamed RiffZilla, the Mystery Science Theater 3000 team joined together to make the 1998 Godzila film hysterically tolerable and enjoyable. Michael J Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy scourers Matthew Broderick and company in the subpar reboot of the famous monster.
Fans of MST3K will love everyting from the slideshow to the closing gags. Sure, Mike and Servo are not going back and forth, but the jokes are great.
Like other Fathom Events, this is such a great venue to enjoy fan favorites or live performances around the globe. This success has fueled the needed funds to keep more RiffTrax coming (Starship Troopers sounds like a lock according to Murphy, with Twilight still the Holy Grail.) Next up is RiffTrax Anaconda – coming to Fathom on October 30.
Weird Al songs before the show, John Goodman, Chernobyl, Channing Tatum and Three Stooges jokes highlight a fun night out, no matter the age. There are some sound issues at time where the film drowns out the punchline, but there is always another riff lined up so the lulls are short.
The trio alternate slaps at the bad acting, plot holes, poor CGI or just offer up a disturbing or strange observation.
Overall RiffTrax Godzilla aka RiffZilla receives 3 1/2 stars out of 5
