Ridley Scott confirms plans to start ‘Prometheus’ sequel in January, get back to Sci-Fi
Director Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel, Prometheus definitely opened the door to a sequel, but the 2012 film failed to score a big box office draw or critical success. Scott has stood firm, promising to return for a second film and confirms it’s moving ahead, rather quickly in fact.
In a new interview with Total Film, Scott says he’s planning on shooting Prometheus 2 in January of 2016.
“I’ve got back into the sci-fi thing, I kind of adore it,” he says, following his latest project titled The Martian, which arrives in theaters in October.
Michael Green (Green Lantern, Blade Runner 2) was reportedly brought on to rewrite the sequel, as 20th Century Fox then gave the film a release date of March 2016. The project couldn’t get going and here we are…looking at 2017 release.
A fifth Alien film is in production, directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Chappie) and is currently set for 2017 as well. Scott will be executive producing that film as well to ensure plot details do not contradict anything found in the franchise.
While the plot for Prometheus 2 is under wraps, Michael Fassbender is set to return as the android David. Some reports hint at “multiple Davids. Noomi Rapace will also return and Rik Barnett is rumored to be in negotiations for a role.
Scott was “warned” fans that there will be a “fresher form of the alien” and xenomorphs won’t appear in the film, despite the filmmaker’s admission that the creature featured in the final moments of Prometheus bears a strong resemblance to that classic villain in his 1979 film.
“… after four (films), I think it wears out a little bit. There’s only so much snarling you can do. I think you’ve got to come back with something more interesting. And I think we’ve found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start,” the Gladiator director explained to Yahoo Movies Sept. 24 interview.”
Stayed tuned for news, because this may move rather quickly to get filming in a couple of months.
