Repticon 2014: Reptiles and exotic pets take center stage in Tampa

Folks may hear Repticon and think snakes, but the show this weekend in Tampa offers much, much more. Big or small, wet or dry, hairless guinea pigs and other exotics took center stage as thousands poured into the Florida State Fairgrounds.

Guests entered and were met with a vendor showcasing tortoises, beautiful lizards and creatures. Fans spread down several aisles of vendors selling exotic and unique lizards, frogs, snakes and more.

Rare Werneri Chameleons, massive tegus and snakes, large and small, were all on hand for fans of reptiles. Tons of jewelry, decorations and handmade wood or metal items were also available for guests to showcase their love of these creatures.

Check out some of these over at Dragonbackbone.com

Then there are the expects, always willing to share, education and show off their wares.

“He’s 75% Nelson milk snake, 25% Pueblan,” Ward from Ward’s World of Reptile Propagation explained as he held out the beautiful milk snake for guests to examine and touch.

Robert from allaboutbeardeds.com, with a degree in Biology, proved to be a master at the maintenance and care of bearded dragons, sharing difficult times and offering detail advice to patrons. He says he is truly “rich” to be doing something that he “truly loves,” when asked about raising and caring for so many reptiles.

Tampa’s Croc Encounters was also present answering questions and allowing kids to see and touch a live alligator. The group, crocencounters.com, has an upcoming event in September featuring an appearance by the Gator Boys. Check out their site for more information.

Arguably, Repticon is one of the coolest and most educational events that comes to town and you need to check it out when it comes near you.

Whether you were seeking out a pet to buy, a snake hook or even food for these critters – Repticon proved to be the perfect event.
