‘Red 2’ cast grows with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byung-Hun Lee
“Red 2” continues to move forward with few details released after the hiring of “Galaxy Quest” director Dean Parisot. Summit Entertainment announced the cast today as the film heads into production with a schedule release date for 2013.
Collider published the entire press release today which confirmed that Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, and Mary-Louise Parker will be reprising their roles from the first film.
The Lionsgate company also reports that they added two more to the cast.
Oscar® winner Catherine Zeta-Jones (ROCK OF AGES, CHICAGO) and Byung-Hun Lee (G.I. JOE: RETALIATION, G.I. JOE: RISE OF THE COBRA) (have been cast) in RED 2, the sequel to the action-comedy hit RED.
Erich and Jon Hoeber return to write the second chapter in the “Red” franchise, an adaptation of a Wildstorm comic book series by writer Warren Ellis. Ellis also worked on the ‘Iron Man Extremis’ storyline which appears to be integral in the upcoming “Iron Man 3” film.
Few details about the story were revealed, but the rumored release date appears to now be set.
RED 2 brings back the team of retired CIA operatives as they use their old-school style to take on a new set of enemies all across Europe. The film is scheduled to be released on August 2, 2013.
2010’s “Red” was a pleasant surprise at the box office, earning $90 million in the US and received a Golden Globe nomination in the Best Picture category for Comedy/Musicals.
