Rebecca Hall joins ‘Iron Man 3’ as nanotech scientist
UPDATED with picture of Hall’s character.
Rumors swirled on the Internet that Oscar-nominee Jessica Chastain was set to join the third Iron Man film, written and directed by Shane Black. That deal appears to have collapsed and Hall, star of “The Town”, has landed the role.
Variety exclusively broke the news Tuesday of the casting.
“…(she)play a scientist who plays a pivotal role in the creation of a nanotechnology, known as Extremis, that winds up being sold to terrorists.”
Slash Film summarized Hall’s role from a couple different articles:
“The role is of a pivotal female scientist who helps create a nanotechnology called Extremis, which was made famous in a landmark run of the Marvel comic book called Iron Man Extremis by Warren Ellis. The technology, which acts as a biological superhuman enhancement, is stolen by terrorists and eventually gets adopted by Tony Stark, who uses it to sort of become a superhero both out of the armor as well as in.”
After some small roles in Christopher Nolan’s “The Prestige” and 2008’s “Frost/Nixon,” Hall starred opposite Ben Affleck in “The Town” and appears positioned for a rise to stardom with a role in “Iron Man 3”.
“Iron Man 3” will star Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley. Filming will begin in North Carolina this month leading toward a May 3, 2013 release date.
