Radioshack Super Bowl ad broken down: Did you get all of the references?

Forget the game, it was a blowout anyway. The real magic of the Super Bowl comes in 30 second increments and this year the Radioshack 80’s ad stole the show for me.

With a little legwork I tracked down some twitter posts which will entertain and ensure you didn’t miss any of the references.

First up, the core group pictured below: John Ratzenberger (Cliff Clavin from “Cheers”) one of America’s favorite mailmen,  Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider, Hulk Hogan (nobody missed him) and CHiPs star Erik Estrada.

All of the actors made a cameo and had a bit to say about the ad – read more below.

Radioshack Super Bowl ad 80s references

WOW! What an amazing response to the @RadioShack SB ad! I know I look like an aging drag queen in the spot…but I ALWAYS looked like that! – @deesnider

Who was the good looking mailman in that Radio Shack Superbowl commercial? – @Dratzenberger

Let’s move on with Sgt. Slaughter, Mary Lou Retton and Kid ‘n Play. Sure you saw Kid, but did you catch Play.

The WWE Hall of Famer and animated GI Joe character (real name Robert Remus) took part in a great photo tweeted by Snider.

Mary Lou appeared, complete with a wig of her trademark ’80s hairstyle! “I’ve never run away from the idea of spoofing myself,” she explains in the behind-the-scenes video.

Most people get the Teen Wolf (no, that’s not Michael J Fox), Back the Future Delorean or Ghostbuster‘s Slimer, but who’s that gal in the top photo.

Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th films, Bubo the Owl from original Clash of the Titans, Chucky from Child’s Play, Alf, video game icon Q*Bert and the California Raisins.

DEVO was not actually on hand, but I bet you saw through red flower pot shaped hats and knew who they were.

Wait, what about that girl from the first shot – you know, the girl in gold…hint, hint.

Wait, who is this guy?

The Superhero of Health (his real name John Burstein), was back in action (in his original suit!) from his days on Captain Kangaroo.

Thanks to Dee Snyder, Hulk Hogan, MaryLou Retton, Kid N Play, Cliff Clavin, Teen Wolf, Alf Jason, Chuckie and the entire Radio Shack team!! – @ErikEstrada

No mention of the chick he’s flirty with…read on.
