‘Prometheus’ star Michael Fassbender compares his character to ‘Lawrence of Arabia’
The June GQ magazine will feature Michael Fassbender, star of next month’s “Prometheus,” and the “300” star offers a candid look his life. An article released Tuesday chronicles the actor’s career from TV to the present in his London flat.
The Irish actor compared his android David in Ridley Scott’s pseudo-prequel to “Alien” to Lawrence of Arabia.
“I’m the butler…He’s an outsider as well. In the end, [Lawrence is] neither British nor Arab. There’s something in that, I think—the robot not being accepted by any of the humans.”
The GQ connects the dots for some fans by noting how David’s line: “Big things have small beginnings,” revealed in the trailers, comes from “Lawrence of Arabia.”
“I had Lawrence of Arabia on a loop in my room throughout filming. Jesus, I watched it so many times. It’s f***ing boring!”
The “Shame” actor described his obsessive repetition as integral to his regiment and preparation for a role, which results in reading a script hundreds and hundreds of times.
To further the parallels to Peter O’Toole’s character, the “X-Men: First Class” star donned a bleach blonde hair style.
“I don’t think peroxide-blond hair is a beneficial look for me. I just looked at myself and I was like, ‘Five-pound rent boy.’ ”
Fassbender recently starred in a new Prometheus viral video, which featured his android character David ominously describing his many workforce skills.
The “Inglorious Basterds” star is part of an ensemble cast for Ridley Scott’s return to the “Alien” universe and science fiction. Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, Rafe Spall, Sean Harris, and Guy Pearce also star.
“Prometheus” opens in theaters June 8, 2012.
