‘Prometheus’ actor Rafe Spall replaces Tobey Maguire on Ang Lee film
Tobey Maguire may be too famous for a role in the new Ang Lee film “Life of Pi” since he was replaced by “Prometheus” actor Rafe Spall.
The Hollywood Reporter details the casting account in Wednesday’s article, which details Maguire’s exit from the project.
“I fully support Ang’s decision to go a different direction for this role in Life of Pi. Ang shared a lot of the film with me, and what I saw was absolutely beautiful,” Maguire released in a statement.
Lee responded by saying, “To be consistent with the other casting choices made for the film, I decided to go with an entirely international cast. I very much admire Tobey and look forward to working with him again in the future.”
Maguire was set to play a writer who interviews the central character named Pi, played by Suraj Sharma. The role moves to Spall, who most recently was one of the explorers in Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus,” a prequel to the 1979 Sci-Fi classic “Alien.”
In additional to this role, Spall is lined up at the lead in “Earthbound,” a Sci-Fi romantic comedy starring alongside Jenn Murray (“Dorothy Mills” and “The Fade”) and David Morrissey (The Governor in “The Walking Dead”).
Lee’s “Life of Pi” arrives in theater on November 21, 2012.
