Production ‘ends,’ FOX quiet on ‘Poltergeist’ remake with Sam Rockwell, Jared Harris, Rosemarie DeWitt
Remakes and reboots are not all finding success at the box office, so maybe Fox is trying to keep expectations low for their Poltergeist “reboot”/”remake”/”sequel.”
IMDB notes that the film officially has moved into post-production, but there is no news, no photos, no teasers, nothing to juice fans for the updated version linked to the 1982 classic.
Sam Rockwell ( Iron Man 2) will play Eric Bowen, whose daughter Madison is kidnapped by supernatural and stuck in limbo between life and death forces . Rosemarie DeWitt ( Rachel Getting Married ) and Jared Harris ( Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Mad Men ) also star.
Brazil’s Cine Pop summarizes some rumors and ties between the new film and the Tobe Hooper directed original.
“In a scene in the new movie , children find some objects in the attic . Yes , you guessed it – they are some of the belongings of the first family film , intentionally left behind . There are bed sheets (Star Wars from Robbie’s room) , a television in black and white (of course ! ) And some Christmas decorations,” their article summarizes.
It sounds like a predictable reboot, so it remains to be seen if Monster House director Gil Kenan can pull this off.
Poltergeist opens in theaters February 13, 2015.

Any fan of Poltergeist will know two things wrong with this proposed plot of the remake.
1. The house gets sucked into the light at the end of the original, so there’s no chance of any belongings being “left behind.” The house itself wasn’t even left behind.
2. The TV in Poltergeist was a color TV, which you can see in the first 10 minutes of the original, when Steven and his friends are watching a football game.
Yes, I’m a Poltergeist nerd! 🙂
