Pro-life groups calling for investigation into New Mexico abortion doctor Shelley Sella

Noting that the Kermit Gosnell murder case is highlighting abuses and malpractice in abortion clinics, pro-life groups are targeting Shelly Sella, a doctor in New Mexico.

The May 7 article by Operation Rescue claims “…out of the 11 New Mexico complaints, only one was investigated, that of a 35-week abortion that resulted in the ruptured uterus, which the medical board cleared her of all charges. (More here)

Critics are calling for witnesses as the abortion clinics in Albuquerque are never inspected by the Department of Health, they are exempt from the Ambulatory Surgical Center classification and therefore abortionists may be lacking oversight. Gosnell’s clinic was not inspected for 17 years.

Southwestern Women’s Options offers the late-term abortions, just like the Pennsylvania clinic, but in New Mexico it is legal to abort a baby up to the day of birth.

New Mexico has a criminal abortion statute, but anti-abortions supporters says it’s not enforced. The statute states that post viability abortions are to be done in an accredited hospital, but the outpatient clinics (like SW Women’s) are performing the procedures without immediate access to emergency care.

Back in 2008 an eyewitness claims that Sella stabbed a baby to death after the baby was born alive during an abortion. This is not punishable like in the Gosnell case. (More here)
