The Zamboanga City native, a member of the  Philippine Air Force (PAF), received the Outstanding Achievement Medal by Secretary of National Defense Delfin Lorenzana and Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) General Ricardo Visaya last Monday.

Diaz captured a silver medal at the women’s 53-kg category in weightlifting, finishing with a total of 200-kg, the first Filipina to win an Olympic medal in the country’s history.

In addition to the many accolades bestowed upon the Airwoman First Class, a promotion she received from the Air Force last week, she received P5 million in cash incentive tax-free (a little more than $100,000).

The 2016 Rio Games was her third shot at a medal–she competed in 2008 in Beijing and 2012 in London.
