Politicians want more security amid death threats and vandalism. A little ironic?

With the latest reports of violence, vandalism and death threats to several Democratic House members since passage of the health care bill, they have recently met with FBI and US Capitol Police for more security.

Though the death threats and vandalism are criminal and abhorrent and should never be condoned, to me there is a little twist of irony in all this.
Isn’t this the same group that is at constant war with the 2nd amendment and continually try to restrict the ordinary citizens access to firearms. As a matter of fact, I’m sure there are more than a few congresspeople who are seeking more security who have voiced a desire to altogether ban firearms.
One example is Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D) Arizona, whose Tucson office was vandalized. More security for the congresswoman?
Here is her record:
-As an Arizona legislator, she voted against restricting municipalities who wanted to impose restrictions on the sale of firearms and ammunition (2003, HB 2319). Giffords also voted against HCR 2025 (2003), which called for protecting gun shows from additional regulation or elimination.
-In Congress isn’t any better. Giffords chose not to be a co-sponsor of HR 1399, which would specifically guarantee Second Amendment rights to DC citizens and repeal the gun ban, that was just declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, even though the majority of Representatives did sign on as a co-sponsor.
-Giffords has opposed other measures that protect law abiding gun owners. She decided not to cosponsor H.R. 4900, a bipartisan bill that will reform the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE). The bill would limit disclosures on firearm data, ban a centralized electronic database of dealer records, and make other changes that will limit BATFE abuses that have been documented in the recent past.
-Giffords is a director of a group that opposes the right of Americans to own firearms.
-Giffords’ legislative record is one that has opposed gun rights.
-Giffords has taken positions on gun rights that are unconstitutional. And the list could go on and on.
So here’s the irony: Ms.Giffords who may justifiably require and deserve more security, is basically opposed to everyday citizens having the same rights to own a firearm to be able to protect themselves. With all the violence and crime in Washington DC, she still doesn’t believe that law-abiding citizens should be able to defend themselves, their families and their property from criminal thugs.
A little elitist Rep Giffords? You can have taxpayer paid, professionally trained security and Joe/Josephine Proletariat living in DC cannot have a 38 special to defend him/herself?
