Police identify Margo Bonini, Katelyn Bonini as victims killed by Bob Bonini in Michigan murder suicide
Police have identified the family killed in a Michigan double murder-suicide as Margo Bonini and daughter, Katelyn Bonini, killed by Margo’s spouse (Katelyn’s dad) Bob Bonini.
Sebewaing Police Chief Bill Owens identified the father and murderer Bob Bonini, 61, explaining how police found the bodies of Margo Bonini, 60, and Katelyn Bonini, 21, on Thursday, Feb. 15, inside the Bonini family home at 534 Beach St.
Owens said the incident unfolded about 1 a.m. Authorities were called by a family member to check on the house and that’s when officers discovered the three bodies. He explained that the lights were on, but there was no response, so the officers pressed their way in.
“Looking through one of the windows we saw what appeared to be a body down in the downstairs,” Owens said. “It’s a very quiet family, very quiet neighborhood, everybody pretty much keeps to themselves, and evidently something happened that is unforeseen,” Owens said.
Owens explained that the double murder suicide is the first crime of this type in nearly four decades in the village of Sebewaing, a community of 1,700. The village of Sebewaing is located on the coast of Saginaw Bay on the southwestern side of the Thumb.
Bob Bonini owned a carpet and tile cleaning company that bore his namesake. Margo Bonini worked at the village’s sole library. Katelyn Bonini attended Saginaw Valley State University.
Police have not disclosed a suspected motive.
The Michigan State Police Crime Lab is assisting the village police department in its investigation.
