Pittsburgh zoo calendar features the wild dogs which killed Maddox Derkosh
While the exhibit remains closed, the 2013 Pittsburgh zoo calendar is a painful reminder of the horrific scene earlier this month which left Maddox Kirdosh dead.
The 2-year-old child was fatally mauled by wild dogs on November 4 by African painted dogs, which were included in the nearly released 2013 calendar – the month of March.
During a brief conversation with The Global Dispatch, Zoo President Barabara Baker confirmed that the calendars were printed prior to the murder of Kirdosh and now the “zoon is considering scrapping the calendar in lieu of the child’s death, but some have already been sold.”
Baker added that the dogs are an endangered species the zoo is responsible for helping protect.
Maddox was visiting the zoo with his mother on November 4 when he fell from the top of a platform railing to the ground inside of the pit area of the dogs’ exhibit, according to the police affidavits and reports.
