‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ closes in on director, Rupert Sanders now on list
With The Lone Ranger looming, Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer continue to move forward a fifth installment Pirates Of The Caribbean.

Johnny Depp will bring Jack Sparrow back again for “Pirates 5”
Deadline reports that the short list includes Fredrik Bond (The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman), directing duo Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki), and Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman). Production is being slotted for late this year or early next year, but the director will reportedly be locked within the next few weeks.
Ronning and Sandberg are the favorite to get the job, earning a Foreign Oscar nomination and they recently dropped out of directing Spectral for Legendary Pictures. Bruckheimer prefers Bond, who has been rumored for the gig for some time. But Sanders is the only person who actually has experience working on big-budget films.
Disney made an unexpected choice for the last film, Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides with Rob Marshall, and that grossed over $1 billion.
Furthermore, it’s not clear whether actors from past installments, such as Geoffrey Rush or Penelope Cruz, would return to reprise their roles.
