‘Pirates 5’ ‘Dead Men Tell No Tales’ details emerge: Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow helming the Dying Gull, avoiding Javier Bardem’s Salazar
Disney has released the synopsis of Pirates Of The Caribbean 5, officially titled Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, revealing that Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow begins the film helming helming a small, dilapidated ship named the Dying Gull before facing off against Captain Salazar, played by Javier Bardem.
The synopsis reads: “The rip-roaring adventure finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazer (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea — notably Jack. Jack’s only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry (Brenton Thwaites), a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy. At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitiful small and shabby ship, Captain Jack seeks not only to reverse his recent spate of ill fortune, but to save his very life from the most formidable and malicious foe he has never faced.”
It remains unclear whether Captain Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) will play a friend or a foe or how Orlando Bloom’s return as Will Turner will factor into the adventure.
Norwegian filmmakers Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning will direct with Kevin R McNally returning as Joshamee Gibbs, Golshifteh Farahani as a sea-witch, David Wenham as Scarfield, Stephen Graham as Scrum and Martin Klebba as Marty.
Paul McCartney has been cast in an unnamed role with Keith Richards presumed to make a brief appearance as Jack’s father.
