Philippines: Dozens sickened at Guimaras school, tainted Cassava cake blamed
Some 31 students at the Suclaran National High School in barangay San Lorenzo on the island of Guimaras were sickened late last week and officials are pointing fingers at a Cassava cake that was served at the school’s canteen.
According to a PhilStar report, the 31 students (10 boys and 21 girls) were hospitalized and treated at Guimaras Provincial Hospital in Jordan.
The students suffered with severe stomach ache, vomiting and dizziness. Samples of the Cassava cake and patient samples were collected for testing to determine the etiology of the illness.
Guimaras is an island province of the Philippines located in the Western Visayas region. Among the smallest provinces, its capital is Jordan. The island is located in the Panay Gulf, between the islands of Panay and Negros.
