Philippines DOH still looking for 174 Etihad Airlines passengers, issue health alert for int’l travelers

Health officials in Manila have published a list of passengers today that arrived to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport last Tuesday on Etihad Airlines flight EY0424 that have yet to coordinate with the Department of Health for a  free “nose-throat-swab” to rule out Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV).

The Philippines Department of Health (DOH) is appealing to the 174 passengers for their cooperation. They encourage these individuals to call the DOH hotlines: 11-1001; 711-1002; 0922-884-1564; 0920-949-8419; 09157725621 or go to the nearest DOH hospital.

In addition, the DOH issued a health alert today for international travelers arriving in the Philippines. For the traveler they say and recommend: “During your recent travels, you may have been exposed to cases of MERS-CoV. You should monitor your health for at least 14 days. If you become ill with fever accompanied by cough, sore throat, nasal congestion or difficulty of breathing, you should consult a health care provider or a physician. Other accompanying symptoms are fatigue, headache, chills, vomiting, or diarrhea.

“To help your physician make a diagnosis, tell about your recent travel history, especially if you have been to regions/areas affected with MERS-CoV.”  For more infectious disease news and information, visit and “like” the Infectious Disease News Facebook page.

The DOH is advising physicians treating applicable patients to “Manage symptomatically the presenting signs and symptoms and isolate the patient.” In addition, they are requested to immediately report to the nearest local health authority (MHO/CHO/PHO).
