Philip Daniel Chism, age 14, is charged with the murder of a Danvers High School math teacher Colleen Ritzer, age 24.

Colleen Ritzer
Ritzer’s body was found in the woods behind Danvers High School Tuesday night, according to District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett.
Authorities found blood in a second-floor bathroom at the high school, which caused a massive search and the discovery of Ritzer’s body in the woods.
Court documents from the suspect’s arraignment say prosecutors have surveillance video of the teacher going into the bathroom. Five minutes later, the suspect went into that bathroom.
A judge ruled that Chism would be treated as an adult.
Here’s the initial statement released earlier:
“Danvers Police initiated a search for the teacher and discovered blood in the second floor bathroom at Danvers High School. The school was immediately secured,” said Jonathan Blodgett, district attorney for Essex County. “As a result of the joint investigation of the Massachusetts State Police, Danvers and Topsfield police, the body of Colleen Ritzer, 24, of Andover, was located in the woods near Danvers High School. It was apparent that she was a homicide victim. We have no reason to believe there are any other suspects involved. The juvenile suspect is expected to be arraigned today in Salem Juvenile court on the charge of murder.”
